Government Relations News:

We were unsuccessful this legislative session in making any changes to the state code regarding city ordinances, however, we were successful in getting a bill past that makes it a serious misdemeanor to practice massage therapy without a license! We are looking to retain our lobbyist for this next year again.

We will be holding our 3rd annual Lobby Day at the   Capitol on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 11:30am to 2:00pm. (FACEBOOK)

We will be offering chair massages and talking with legislators about massage therapy and AMTA-IA and our 2020 Legislative Agenda. We are looking for 12 AMTA-IA members to join our board members at this event. If you would be willing, please email me as soon as possible. Thank you.

As we get our contract set with our lobbyist and as we start preparing our 2020 Legislative Agenda, I would like to be considering your input. Do you have any thoughts, concerns, questions, goals, dreams, etc regarding massage therapy on a legislative level? Please do email me your input. Thank you. Sincerely,
Rachel L. Brown, LMT, BCTMB

Announcing – Back by Popular Demand!

Ralph R. Stephens will be presenting 12 hours of Medical Massage techniques at the September 14 – 15, 2019 AMTA-IA convention in Coralville, IA !!!

click the link:  (FALL REGISTRATION)

Some of you may have attended the inspiring presentation he gave us in Des Moines in 2016. That was to be his last convention presentation and his last Medical Massage presentation. Holly has sweet talked him into one more program for AMTA-IA. Don’t miss this exclusive encore presentation with one of the profession’s few Master Instructors. Check out his bio and the program description – you’ll want to be a part of this educational event!

Course Description:

Medical Massage for Common Problems
Cervical Rotation Restrictions
The Rotator Cuff
The Elbow

12 CE Hours. 80% Hands-on

In this awesome, special course for AMTA-IA, you will learn how to assess the muscles of these three areas of common injury and pain complaints, quickly and easily so you can direct your techniques accurately and efficiently.

You will learn how to examine and treat posterior cervical muscles that restrict rotation of the cervical spine and a special, painless way to increase cervical range of motion (ROM) very quickly.

Then you will learn an orthopedic muscle testing routine for shoulder assessment, that targets the rotator cuff in particular and includes virtually all of the muscles that cross the shoulder joint. Then you will experience and perform Medical Massage techniques to examine and treat the rotator cuff muscles accurately and effectively.

Finally, you will learn assessment and treatment skills to address tennis and golfer’s elbow (lateral and medial epicondylitis). These techniques can be utilized in both table and chair massage!

This will likely be Ralph Stephens’ last State Chapter presentation, and his last Medical Massage presentation. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to study with one of the Master Instructors of our profession, who just happens to be Iowa’s only internationally recognized teacher.

The Iowa Chapter recently had our advancement training from nationals on how the day to day operations should be handled. We are looking forward to adopting some of these recommendations and seeing how they will work out for our chapter. This summer seems to be flying by so make sure to take that time and enjoy the day.

AMTA CSMT Newsletter July 2019
Bill McArtor, LMT

Just an early reminder to all massage therapists that on “Veteran’s Day” there is a chair massage event in Waverly on Monday November 11, 2019 from 8:00 am – 2:00 pm.

We are looking for massage therapists that are willing to donate their time to help out. This is my 3rd year of attending the Veteran’s Day event and I can tell from experience, what a rewarding feeling it is to give back to the Vet’s for everything they have done for us as civilians.

So, please spread the work about the Veteran’s Day massage event in Waverly. Hope to see you there!

Please email me at cmst.amtaiowa@gmail.com of futher information.
